Frequently Asked Questions

About bulk renaming images online

No. Browsers cannot modify files on your file system. The tool renames files in memory and lets you download copies with the new names. Your original files remain exactly as they are. You then replace them manually if needed.
The renamer works with any image format that your browser supports as a file: JPG, PNG, WEBP, AVIF, GIF, BMP, TIFF, ICO, SVG, HEIC, and more. The file extension is preserved exactly — only the filename base is changed per your settings.
With the Custom Pattern option you can use placeholder tokens in a template: {name} = original filename without extension, {index} = the sequential number, {prefix} = the prefix you entered, {ext} = file extension. For example the pattern {prefix}-{index}-{name} with prefix "holiday" produces: holiday-1-beach.jpg, holiday-2-sunset.jpg, etc.
There is no hard limit built into the tool. Practical limits depend on your browser's available memory. For most users, batches of 50–200 images work smoothly. For very large batches, we recommend using the ZIP download rather than downloading files individually.
Completely. All processing happens locally in your browser using the File API and JavaScript. No image data is transmitted to any server. This makes the tool safe for confidential, personal, or client work.
