What forms expect: name and date of photograph
Requirements differ, and many forms do not want any text on the photo at all. Add a name and date only when your notification asks for it, and check the official instructions for layout and size.
| Setting | Typical requirement |
| Position | White strip below the face |
| Text | Name and date, black, clearly legible |
| Date | Date the photo was taken, often DD/MM/YYYY |
| Recency | Taken within the period stated, often a few months |
| Strip height | Enough for two clear lines; this tool defaults to 20% |
The strip uses part of the total pixel size, so a 200 ร 230 px preset stays 200 ร 230 px with the text included. If your form gives the photo area separately, use a custom size.
Getting the name and date right
Write your name as it appears in the form
Use the same spelling and order as in your application and ID proof. Capital letters are the norm and improve legibility at small sizes, which is why the capitals option is ticked by default.
Choose the right date format
Most Indian forms use day, month, year. Pick slashes, hyphens or dots to match the example in your notification. Tick the DATE: prefix only if the sample photo shows it.
Common mistakes
- Text too small to read after compression; raise the strip height slider.
- Text covering the chin when overlay mode is used; prefer the white strip below.
- An old photo with a new date, which can fail verification.
- A name that differs from the form, such as a nickname or missing surname.
Check legibility at full size
Exam photos are small, often around 200 pixels wide, so text has very little room. Open the downloaded JPG and zoom to 100%. If the name is blurred or the letters touch, increase the strip height or the KB limit within the allowed range. Long names automatically shrink to fit the width, so very long names may need a taller strip to stay readable.
